Do we create with purpose? Is that purpose contributing or harming?

In the process of developing the documentary, I have come to realise that there is a common theme amongst generations. There was an air of enthusiasm when it came to having children pre-2000’s. A goal, an intention. Whether it was to ensure the family name lived on, to increase the wealth or survival of the family, or to continue gender-conforming traditions; there was hope. Raising children today has become a cause for concern across the board of generations. The earth is crying as we diminish her nutrients. The cost of living has become way more than just finances. With the divide in connection simultaneously at odds with the connection technology promises, the question lingers in conversations behind closed doors. Should we be bringing life into a world we are destroying?

I still believe (as the great Whitney did) that the children are our future. However, I also believe that we must nurture that future. With that, we must be dedicated to giving energy, time, effort, and resources to create a future we all will to see. One where we are collectively thriving in harmony as a species.

With this documentary, I aim to uncover how our mental and emotional processes ripple down the generations. I think about the conversations around this current generation, and I think about the distance between generations. I think when we begin to lose hope, we become stagnant. Water teaches us stagnancy breeds disease, let us not become stagnant in our hope to pour into our children with the vision that they will drink from our wisdom and do better than we have.
