Time will tell.... if we tell it!

I have been blown away by some of the stories that have emerged in the process of developing this documentary. Ways of life that you would not think imaginable from present-day sight. I often think about the human story that is not in the history books or channels. The witnesses to societies built and transcended.

There is a generation of Brits walking around today who all share the story of “accidently eating the banana skin” when they were a child. For those that know, know. For those that don’t know, England stopped the import of bananas for about 5 years. Where contemporary babies had the luxury of mush banana baby food, one generation had their first banana at 4 years old and had no idea how to eat it. Now, I am not a banana lover but, I say that with the privilege of choice. When I think about the perceived ‘entitlement’ that one generation has on another, could it simply be down to tiny details such as banana access? If we shared more of our stories, could we foster a better understanding of our perspectives and feelings towards things?

When I think of the journey ahead and how our world is evolving before our eyes, I wonder what things will no longer exist, and what things will emerge. I think of my 91-year-old grandmother who never lets us call her grandma because according to her ‘it makes her sound old’ (another generational perspective), and the drastic changes she has witnessed. When I think of the journey ahead, I still think we have the potential to morally do better, but we need to do better today.

P.s It is safe to eat banana skin!
